Development Programs
We do not have any set programs, as we understand that every group is different, and thus, need to be dealt with accordingly. We do have standard procedures involving various assessments, and specific activities developed according to the group, individual, and company’s needs.

All our programs are based on the Dimensions of Wellness. Although our programs are in-depth and focus on critical issues, it is presented and facilitated in an enjoyable and comfortable environment. People learn best by doing, so with the help of specific indoor and outdoor activities, and mostly being out of the office environment during the programs, help the individuals understand the processes, and learning occurs easily and effectively.

People tend to retain information easier and longer if they enjoy and understand what is being learned. This increases the probability of maintaining their positive changes when combined with applying what they have learned to their personal and office environments. They enjoy themselves, while learning, and changing for the positive.

INCENTIVE PACKAGES
Employees need to feel that they are valued and that their hard work and achievements are acknowledged. By incorporating an achievement system, employees will feel motivated to perform at a higher level of quality, as they know they will be rewarded accordingly.

a) Individual Achievement Bonus* - Reward individual efforts and achievements with incentive travel for the employee and his/her family
b) Corporate / Team Achievement Bonus* - Reward team efforts and achievements with incentive travel for the employee and his/her family

*More information on the advantages of these achievement bonuses, both individual and group focused, will be discussed, once you book your Incentive Package with us.

WELLNESS
If a person is uncertain of who he or she is, then how will they be able to work with other people? In today’s life, people get distracted easily and dictated by technology, fashion, celebrity lifestyles, corporate branding, etc. They are influenced by corporate and social images of what they should do, what they need, or in general, who they should be, all so they can achieve a ‘higher social standard’. We need to go back to the roots and determine who each person really is; their strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, values and beliefs, etc. We have to take a step back and look at each individual, before we can take a step forward in achieving personal growth and wellness.

These programs focus on both a personal and corporate level. Companies tend to focus on the ‘chain’ (i.e. the group of persons or a department), and forget that the ‘links’ (i.e. the individuals) hold the chain together. We start off with development on individual level, so we can strengthen the links, before we focus on the chain as a whole. It can also be compared to the foundation of a house or building; if the foundation is sturdy, you can build anything on it!

What is teambuilding really about?

The members at Innovative Pursuits Africa are motivated to assist corporates and government by turning their management and staff from a group of members into an elite TEAM!

We focus on different levels of development.

Easily explained it means:

Level 1) If you look at an athlete with a muscle or tendon injury, it can be compared to the first step in the development program which is Recreation. It is like rubbing on a bit of “Deep Heat” – it helps ease the pain and she feels better for the moment, but as soon as she gets back onto the field, the pain comes back. This is the level of “teambuilding” that most teambuilding companies provide - you get absolutely nothing from it. It is the same as substituting medication with smarties – doesn’t help at all, just looks and tastes good (and smarties are expensive compared to their size!).

Levels 2 & 3) You need to look deeper into the problem. The athlete should consider going to a sports physician or physiotherapist to fix the underlying problem, not just the symptoms. This is where the Education and Development stages in the development program comes in. By use of a proper Developmental Program, the individuals and the team as a whole, can improve themselves and thus aim to improve the office environment as well as their personal lives.

Level 4) If there is a serious problem, like a rugby player that has a major shoulder injury, an operation might be necessary to fix the problem. In a team development program this is considered the Counceling/Therapy stage. It doesn’t end with the operation. Ongoing therapy and physiotherapy is required to ensure that the injured area heals properly and that it remains fully functional afterwards. Thus, assessments need to be done with the office members before, during and after a program to ensure that they get the most from the program to ensure enriching lives and an effective and efficient office environment.

You certainly want your business to function to its full potential, don’t you? Wouldn’t you enjoy working in an successful and healthy office environment? Why not focus on treating the core of the problems in stead of always trying to fix the symptoms with a bit of “Deep Heat”? How would your life change if your job environment improves? Less stress? Think about it.

Air Activities

AIR ACTIVITIES

There are so many activities to choose from it becomes difficult to decide which to do. To help you make your decision, here is a list of different activities that are available around Southern Africa.

B.A.S.E. Jumping
B.A.S.E. is an acronym for Buidings, Antenna tower, Span, and Earth, which are the four objects where these athletes jump from – with the help of a special parachute of course! In South Africa it is illegal to base-jump from buildings, as is the same in many other countries, but some countries have legal base-jumping sites, such as France, Norway, and Brazil. Evidence exists that suggest base-jumping can be traced back as far as 900 years – whether these jumpers survived the leap is unknown.

Bridge Jumping
Strapped tightly in a full-body harness, your only safety being ropes attached to the opposite bridge (which seems to be really, really far away!). An exhilirating feat as you freefall for up to 50 m before you break into a pendulum swing. It is slightly less scary than bungy jumping, as you are not hanging upside down. Bridge jumping originated in South Africa, and can be done at the Gouritz River Bridge.

Bungy Jumping

Bungy Jumping

Bungy Jumping

Jumping from a bridge, tower, hot air balloon, helicopter, and wherever your imagination can take you. Safely strapped in with harnesses and/or custom ankle straps and connected to a special rope that can absorb the force, it is an exhilirating experience to take the plunge. The tribe of Pentecost Island in the South Pacific annually practice the first form of bungee jumping, as part of their harvest ritual, by building a jumping tower and tying vines around their ankles before they jump off.

Gliding
A glider is an aircraft without a power source, and gliding is flying without engine power. So how do they get in the air? Easy. Tow-planes use tow-ropes to tow the glider from an airfield. The ropes are between 45m and 60m in length, they are light, stretch, are abrasion-resistant, with high strength-to-weight ratios. The ropes are dropped by the glider once the desired altitude has been reached and left to increase its altitude without assistance. Landing is similar to that of any aircraft.

Gorge Swing

Gorge swing

Gorge swing

Find yourself plunging 100m into a beautiful gorge, freefalling three to five seconds, before the rope pulls tight and swings you into a pendulum. This is an exhilirating experience! Strapped safely into a full body harness, your only other safety is being connected to cables stretched across the gorge. Even though this activity can get the adrenaline pumping at high volumes, it is still a safe and comfortable activity for the young and young at heart.

Hang Gliding
The closest we can get to flying like a bird. Pilots launch their hang gliders from hills or cliffs from a running start to generate the initial lift necessary for flight. The pilot looks for thermals (rising zones of warm air) to gain altitude. The gliders are made from aircraft quality aluminum and stainless steel with a sail (the wing) and held together by a series of wires. The glider can carry a load of over one ton without breaking. The first manned hang glider was designed, built, and flown by German inventor Otto Lilienthal in 1893.

Helicopter Flights
South Africa has some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. Enjoy a bird’s eye view over coastal areas, mountains, game reserves, winelands, and much more. It is generally more affordable than you might think. Feel the ‘G-forces’ as the helicopter builds up speed and pulls up vertical, before turning and dropping back down. If you don’t want an adrenaline surge, then opt for a more relaxed scenic flight.

Helium Ballooning
Ascend 120 metres and gaze in awe at the spectacular view. You are secured by cable to the ground, the cable is released upwards as you view your surrounds. You slowly descend as the cable is retrieved by winch. This is a great activity for all ages. You can do this any time of day – sunrise, sunset, at night, or during the day.

Hot Air Ballooning
Floating high above the ground, in the oldest form of flight known to man, you can enjoy the spectacular view at sunrise. The reason the activity starts early is to avoid thermals that arise as the earth heats up, which will result in an unstable ride. The silence of the balloon safari is interrupted only by the occasional blast of the powerful burners and the faint call of a bird or animal far below.

Jet Flights
If you are looking for an unforgettable, high speed adventure, then look no further. Be a Top Gun for a day  flying over Cape Town in a jet fighter plane. Climbing up to 60,000 feet at Mach 2, seeing the curvature of the earth in just over a minute. You can enjoy flight in any of the following; Hawker Hunters, Buccaneers, English Electric Lightnings, or a Strikemaster Jet.

Microlighting
Since its inception in the 1970’s, it has provided a low cost, and easily transportable form of flying for the average person who dreams of becoming a pilot.  Flying in itself is not necessarily dangerous, it is however, very unforgiving of errors, sloppiness and misjudgement on the part of the pilot. It provides a breathtaking birds-eye view of various landscapes around Southern Africa, including game areas, and coastlines.

Paragliding
The safety of the sport is directly proportional to the skill and sense of the pilot. This aircraft is launched by foot, but can be launched by winch or from a ground vehicle if there aren’t high launch points. The pilot sits in a comfortable harness suspended below a fabric wing or canopy, whose shape is formed by the pressure of air entering vents in the front of the wing. The pilot is supported underneath the wing by a network of lines, which is gathered in two sets as left and right risers.A paraglider’s design purpose is for ascending (with the help of thermals), unlike parachutes that are designed for descending.

 Parasailing

Parasailing

Parasailing

Attached with a full body harness to a schute. No, you are not jumping off a cliff, you will become airborne with the help of a speedboat. It is a smooth ride. As the speedboat pulls off, you pull up when the line between the two of you pulls tight. The scenery is spectacular as you get a bird’s eye view - first hand! Some providers are fantastic as you don’t get wet at all. They may take you down low to dip your feet quick, but you can stay dry. All providers don’t always provide that luxury of staying dry. Taking a quick dip won’t hurt though, and will be appreciated on a hot day.

Skydiving
A thrilling experience jumping from an airplane with only a parachute to keep you safe. This extreme sport is quite safe. Students learn by doing static-line jumps, where the parachute deploys as soon as the skydiver is clear of the aircraft. More experienced skydivers go onto the Accelerated Free Fall, where the diver jumps solo and free fall in the company of instructors. For those who are not too certain about skydiving, rather do a tandem jump where you are attached to a qualified instructor, so you just enjoy the view while the instructor does all the work.

Zipline / Flying fox / Foefie slide

Zipline

Zipline

There are different names for this activity, as the length and height varies, but it all comes down to the same thing – flying like superman! Ok, so it is not entirely the same, but close enough. Suspended from a steeply inclining cable, attached to a pulley, and strapped into a full-body harness, all you need to do is enjoy the ride as gravity takes you down.

Nature Activities

There are so many activities to choose from it becomes difficult to decide which to do. To help you make your decision, here is a list of different nature related activities that are available around Southern Africa.

Birdwatching

Black-eyed Bulbul

Black-eyed Bulbul

Birdwatching is a recreational activity to observe and/or study various bird species. This can be done by spotting birds with the naked eye or using a device that can enhance your view, such as binoculars. The activity often involves identifying birds by ear as many species are hard to spot and are thus easier to identify by their calls. Many birds have very distinctive calls, such as the Grey Loerie or Kwêvoël.

Big Five Game

Lions

Lions

According to hunters, the Big Five, refer to the five most difficult animals to hunt on foot in Africa. Today the term is widely used by tourists who want to see these magnificent animals. The Big five include the Lion (Panthera leo), African Elephant (Loxodonta africana), African Buffalo (Syncerus caffer), Black Rhinoceros (Diceros bicomis), and the Leopard (Panthera pardus)

Canopy Tours / Treetopping
Discover an entire new world in the forest canopy by sliding on a zipline between platforms high up in the forest. It is very safe (as long as it is done with a reputable provider), educational and breathtaking. Guides strap you in a full body harness and other safety equipment then attach you to a cable with a pulley which gently glides you between platforms. This experience can take up to three hours.

Elephant Back Riding & Safaris
What better way to experience wildlife than to get up close and personal? Elephant encounters and elephant back riding is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about these majestic animals. Touch, interact, feed and take a walk with them in the bush. Learn about their daily routines, anatomy, and personalities. For an added experience, ride on an African elephant. Seated on a canvas-covered saddle mounted behind an experienced elephant handler, this is a twist to the general game watching as the elephant moves through the bush

Fly fishing
An ancient method of fishing, mostly focused on catching trout or salmon. Artificial flies are cast with a fly rod and a fly line. Artificial flies are created by tying hair, fur, feathers, and other natural or synthetic materials onto a hook with a thread. Imitative flies resemble natural food items. Attractive flies trigger instinctive strikes by employing a range of characteristics that do not necessarily mimic prey items. Proper casting, regardless of technique, requires pauses in both directions (forward and backward) to allow the entirety of the line to unfurl parallel to the water’s surface.

Game Capture Tours
Do you want an exhilirating conservation adventure? Game capture is a thrilling experience and involves the tracking of, darting and relocation of many types of game, including the Big 5. It can include supporting the team with the game capture, setting up enclosures for holding wildlife, camping in the bush, observing the specialized activity of darting wildlife, and release of captured game to new reserves.

Horse Riding

Horses

Horses

Horse riding trails in South Africa are as diverse as the terrain. If you are comfortable on a horse, you can ride among some big game in a game reserve, if not then take a brisk canter along a beach, through
vineyards, or through magnificent mountains. Horse rides range from an hour to multi-day treks, depending on how much time you have available.

Hunting

Nyala

Nyala

The practice of pursuing animals for food, recreation, or trade. In modern use, the term refers to regulated and legal hunting. Hunted animals are referred to as game animals, and are usually large or small mammals or gamebirds. Guns are generally used for hunting, but the use of compound bows have also become quite popular as a recreational hunting activity. Although recreational hunters may choose to be selective hunters, many people hunt to enjoy the outdoors, as well as the thrill of tracking an animal.

Shark Cage diving – Great Whites
Unquestionably one of the major attractions for adventure and adrenaline seekers to the Cape. Sharks are one of the most feared creatures by man. Is it just because people do not understand sharks and their role in this world? Globally, every year there are thousands of people who travel to see sharks and return educated, fascinated, and respecting these creatures. It is a thrilling experience to come so close to one of the most powerful creatures on this planet (as well as to their extremely sharp rows of teeth and strong jaws!)

Shark Diving
Who said anything about cages? Aliwal Shoal in KZN is the popular location for diving with the Spotted Raggedtooth Shark. The best time for diving with these sharks are from the end of June until the end of November each year, where numbers of between five and up to 30 could be sighted, each at least 1.8m in length. It is an incredible diving experience when one is accepted by the raggies and allowed to quietly witness their natural behaviour.

Star Gazing
Unquestionably the oldest scientific hobby on earth. It is a scientific trend dating back to the ancient philosopher, Plato. Prior to the invention of the telescope (in the 17th century), stargazers required no special equipment but their own eyes and a clear view of the sky to appreciate the magnificence of the infinity. Many star gazers don’t just stop at star gazing, they continue to learn in great detail the working principles of the universe and its elements. Astronomy is not just about gazing at stars and planets at night. There are also solar or lunar eclipses, viewing the occasional comet, identifying the constellations, spotting meteors, viewing the sun at daytime and much more.

Turtle Tours
Turtles are generally secretive animals and are therefore not regularly sighted. Turtle tours will provide you with this rare opportunity to gain a greater understanding of these fascinating creatures. The Elephant coast is known as “turtle country” where different turtles can be found, including the Leatherback, Loggerhead, Olive Ridley, Green Turtle, and the Hawkbill. Only the Leatherback and Loggerhead breed in these waters, and during January and February the baby turtles hatch and head back to sea.

Wildlife Safaris

Safari

Giraffe

Africa is well known for its remarkable wildlife and magnificent natural areas and eco-systems. Game drives are the most widely used methods of viewing game, but other options include watching game by horseback or being guided through the bush on foot. Wildlife safaris provide wonderful opportunities for photos or videos as you watch the animals and birds.
